PLNU alums Alex Rodrick (B.A., Music, 2011) and Christen Horne Ryerson (B.A., Music, 2012) continue PLNU Voice's stream of accolades, winning large cash awards in the 2015 annual competition of the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego. The competition final round awards were announced in a concert on Sunday afternoon May 30th at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley.  Founded in 1945, Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego (www.musicalmerit.org) now awards over $85,000 in prize money every year to young musicians in vocal and instrumental music who live in or attend college in the greater San Diego region.  Rodrick, a mezzo-soprano, receives a $7,000 cash prize; soprano Ryerson receives a cash award of $5,000. Both young vocalists, who studied while at PLNU with Dr. J. Craig Johnson, are pursuing professional careers as opera singers.
