PLNU TV & Film Festival
Point TV will host its 13th annual Department of Communication and Theatre Television and Film Festival in Salomon Theatre on Thursday, April 28th. Student projects made throughout the 2015/2016 year will be screened, food will be provided, and awards will be presented for outstanding student work and projects.
Point TV Station Manager Caleb Daniels has been hard at work programming content for the festival.
“We’re incredibly excited to have a chance to formally show off all the work our student producers have put in this year,” said Daniels. “I believe 2015/2016 has been a particularly strong content year for us, so I believe this year’s TV and Film Festival will be especially great as well.”
The program will include a variety of short films and television shows that were produced this year. Three of these films were produced by PLNU’s advanced field production class; they were shot locally, as well as beyond San Diego county.
The first of the advanced field production films is “Riding Forward,” a romantic drama from first-time director Lindsey Vertullo about a young woman and her boyfriend who own a farm and fall into unexpected tragedy. “Nanobots at the DMV” is a dark comedy/drama about a teenager on hold with the DMV while an erratic conspiracy theorist holds the DMV clerk at gun point. Lastly, “Therefore I Am” is a psychological drama about paranoia, hallucinations and a young woman’s existential crisis.
“I’m excited to show off my directing debut,” said William Anthony, director of “There-fore I Am.” “I’ve worked many hours on this film and am excited to share this story with every-one.”
The students also produced a wide range of television shows including news, sports, mu-sic-documentary, interview shows, reality shows, and even a TEDx talk series. Clips of these shows will be screened throughout the festival. The festival will also include an annual sizzle reel which includes some of the highlights from this year’s productions, as well as a bloopers reel.
A number of awards are being considered now - many of which will be presented at the end of the night. These include Best Intro Project, Best Film, Best Editing, Directing, Cinema-tography, Acting and Screenwriting. There will also be awards for outstanding television pro-jects.
Recognition will also be given to students in the media communication and broadcast journalism majors for demonstrating excellent work throughout the year. Awards for these stu-dents include Outstanding Achievement in Media Communication award and The Carol LeBeau Award for Outstanding Broadcast Journalism. These will be announced at the end of the night by Professor of Communication Dr. Alan Hueth.
“I’m quite proud of this group’s effort this year,” said Hueth. “Our students produced the highest number of hours of film and television programming in many years. I’m proud of them all, and always look forward to honoring and celebrating the fruit of their hard work.”
The film festival will run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Thursday the 28th. All are welcome to attend.
